"I'll Be Your Mirror"

So today I watched Nan Goldin's documentary, "I'll Be Your Mirror", about the stories behind her work and what was going on in her life when these images were taken. I found it so inspiring how she had photographed so much of her life and the people that came in out of it. It's strange, because I'd seen a lot of Nan Goldin's images before, but had never really bothered to look at the story behind the pictures, who they were of, where they were, why they were taken, and I'm so glad to have looked through the documentary.

Although I was watching the documentary as research for my current project on the subject of "Memory" and "Narrative", I found that it really inspired me as a photographer. The idea of photographing most of your life is something that I feel I should and want to do. I want to be able to look back at my pictures and remember good and bad times, and the people that I meet throughout my life. Although I always carry a camera with me, I don't necessarily take enough pictures and sometimes miss out on moments that I will never be able to capture again. I've realised that many people of my generation don't really think about what they can look back on in say 40 years time, as many of us don't take pictures like our parents used too, and I don't think we document enough of our lives. Maybe it's just me, but I think that we take our memories for granted, and don't realise that what we can remember now as something important, may have completely disappeared from our minds in 40 years. So now, it seems, my life as a photographer has taken a strong and sudden influence from Nan Goldin's outlook, let's hope it all goes well!

dreams.

So these are the pictures from my final shoot on my Dreams project, which the previous post was from. I took these using my Diana camera again, and I could not have wished for better results! I love the colours, the haziness and light leaks in some of the pictures, and I love how the double exposures have come out; it really captures the essence of dreams to me, and I think the pictures seem to take you into another world full of magic and mystery. I have to say that this is definitely my favourite shoot I have ever done, not just from the end result, but it was just a lot of fun to shoot, even if we did get some strange looks from dog walkers and the like! I hope you like these pictures as much as I do!

dreaming.

This is a shoot I've done as part of my school photography project, which I'm doing on the idea of dreams. It was such a lovely day when I did this shoot and it went so well, so it was a pretty good day. I love how these pictures are so peaceful, and honestly I wish everything around me in the world was as peaceful as this right now, but I guess to go with the idea of dreams, it has to be a peaceful dreamworld of some kind. I took them all slightly out of focus to continue with the idea of dreams, as it's like a world that's not quite there, something hazy and not real. Hopefully the next shoot will go as well as this one!

dirty diana.

After a very long wait, I've finally got my Diana camera developed, yay! Me being totally oblivious didn't realise that the film was black and white until I handed the film in, but hey, I still like them, but I'll be sure to get colour next time, the colours will look so good! Oh and another bit of good news, I know have a job, and even better it's at Topshop! So I now have a job in one of my favourite shops and I can afford to buy more film, it's aaaaaaallllll good. Hope you like the pictures! (:

hey, so I haven't posted in a while as I'm currently waiting for a chance to go and get my Diana film developed, as I now have money, and I also have to finish off my roll on my fisheye, so I thought I'd just share some old snaps I took in the winter from the fisheye, as my blog is starting to feel neglected! I have come to the conclusion that not only does film look a lot cooler, but also it is a lot more reliable that digital. Although there are less chances of you getting a shot, it doesn't need charging all the time, it doesn't have broken memory card, and neither does it mean endless mugshots when people go happy snappy after stealing your camera the whole night! Film is precious and creates much more of a memory and, for me anyway, a lot more excitement! But anyway, I do actually have a new memory card now, so I should be posting more often again, just as soon as I can figure out how to even get the memory card out of the packaging, (another thing that's better about film)! But yeah, thanks for reading my lovelies (:

So not that anyone is actually reading this, but yeah, I haven't posted because my memory card has been playing up still, so I'm giving up with the whole picture every day, and just posting whatever and whenever  purely because I've missed too many days and my memory card is fucked.

day twenty-four.

So my memory card is still playing up, so today I'd had enough and decided I would scan in some photo's I took a few months ago, which I just hadn't got round to putting up. I took these as part of my AS Photography, based around the theme of Bulimia, but I decided to make a contrast, and create a "fashionable Bulimia", which of course, there is no such thing. But I decided to use my beautiful friend Carys, who is so easy to take pictures of and we really did have a fun time taking all these pictures. But these were actually taken on a disposable camera, and I really love how they turned out!
